Step 2 – Social Distancing & Calculation of Max Capacity in premises Ensure that you are adhering to the government’s guidelines on social distancing e.g. calculate the maximum capacity for each area using 2m social distancing requirements and consider display maximum number prominently at entrances to the premises and procedure in place to ensure compliance Implement queue control systems, place arrows and distance marking on the floor to mark distances, consider one-way systems to allow customers and employees to keep 2 meters away from each other Ensure good ventilation Use screens at cash point and customer services points etc. 5. Step 3 – Promoting Respiratory Hygiene (Catch it, Bin it, Kill it) All staff have been properly trained on good respiratory hygiene i.e. when coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with soap and water Ensure staff and customers wear face coverings as required As required provide staff with appropriate PPE and ensure it is updated as and when necessary 6. Step 4 – Employee Health Ensure all staff have been consulted and are up to date with Covid19 risk assessment controls Remind staff of regular hand washing/sanitising and social distancing controls Any employees who have symptoms are not permitted to attend work, or return to work until it is safe to do so. Encourage employees to look after their mental health Vulnerable/high-risk employees may have to be given alternative work activities 7. Step 5 – Covid19 Risk Assessment Complete a suitable and sufficient Covid19 risk assessment of your premises taking account of all relevant public health and government guidance Consult staff when carrying out the Covid19 risk assessment and ensure staff are aware and implement the necessary control measures The control measures you adopt must meet the particular conditions of your workplace and may be different from those in the example risk assessment (see attached links below) Your Covid19 risk assessment should include the details of the above steps 1-4 as well You can download a full template for completing your assessment at https://www.hseni.gov.uk/publications/example-covid-19-risk-assessment-template 8.
